The 13 Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Jasper, Barton, Newton and McDonald counties that are managed by the Joplin Economic Security Corp. office will continue to stay open despite the federal shutdown because of a quirk of the calendar.
But more than 140 other Head Start programs across the U.S. face the expiration of grant funding Saturday, leaving 65,000 children without access to schooling and the food they received from that program. ×
