Prunella Scales has sadly passed away.

People has confirmed that the beloved actress, best known for her portrayal of Sybil Fawlty on the British sitcom Fawlty Towers , died on Monday (October 27). She was 93.

Her sons, Samuel and Joseph , announced her death through the U.K.’s PA Media news agency and said she died “peacefully at home in London.” Samuel shared the family’s statement on X / Twitter .

“Although dementia forced her retirement from a remarkable acting career of nearly 70 years, she continued to live at home,” it read. Prunella was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2013.
