The borough council of West Middlesex has unanimously chosen to hire the Farrell Police to cover its community beginning January 1.
The borough has been happy with the Shenango Twp. Police, but it came down to strictly a financial decision on Monday when the council approved the three-year contract after a study was done that showed the spending for police coverage was costing West Middlesex too much and the need to look for additional options.
Mayor Stacey Curry said the borough explored six options and, after months of negotiations with Shenango Township and Farrell for a police coverage contract, Farrell was able to provide the service for less, saving more than $73,000 compared to Shenango's new proposed contract.
