(KRON) -- Facebook parent company Meta announced plans Tuesday to cut over 300 Bay Area jobs in the latest round of tech layoffs. According to a filing with the Employment Development Department, the company will be laying off 308 people across five of its Menlo Park offices.
The job cuts were processed last week and will take effect on Dec. 22, according to the state filing. All of the layoffs are permanent.
The job cuts are reportedly part of Meta's previously announced job cuts that will see some 600 people let go from Meta's AI unit. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has prioritized the company's push to develop an AI "superintelligence." Meta is reportedly continuing to look to hire new AI talent, even as it lets people go.
