BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Baton Rouge church families attending a wedding in Jamaica are riding out Hurricane Melissa after the Category 5 storm made landfall as the strongest hurricane in the island’s history.
Thirty-five people, including church leaders, wedding party members, and friends, are stranded at a Jamaican hotel after flights were canceled. The group traveled to Jamaica last week for the wedding of Corey Johnson and Trinity Ford.
Pastor Stephen Johnson and Caprice Jackson lead the Kingdom Revealed Church in Baton Rouge. They hold morning sermons at the Higher Grounds Worship Center, which is run by Bishop AJ and Shevelle Ford. Both families made the trip for the wedding of Johnson’s son and Ford’s daughter.
