PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The mother of a man shot and killed by Phoenix police officers during a trespassing call in January has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the police department and the city of Phoenix.
The lawsuit, filed by Kelly & Lyons, PLLC last week, seeks damages for claims of wrongful death, excessive force under the Fourth Amendment, and deprivation of familial relationship under the Fourteenth Amendment. It also names the City of Phoenix, alleging it fails to train and supervise its officers properly.
“They shouldn’t have shot my son,” Maria Munoz, Phillips’ mother, said. “Chris was running away, and what hurt me so much was how he was left on the ground bleeding, and nobody tried to help him. It’s a pain only a mother can feel.”
