They’ve run in packs. Walked alone. Played volleyball, horseshoes and rowed boats.
However they’ve chosen to move, participants in the Rankin Cancer Run have now pushed the amount raised past the $13-million mark since the inaugural event in 2006.
Run director Mary Ann Edwards said she never sets a fundraising goal for the annual event and has no expectations of passing a milestone.
“You just you never know until the money continues to come in and you go, wow and wow and wow. And all of a sudden you’re over $700,000 and you’re going, wow,” she said.
Donations of all sizes have made a difference.
“We just are grateful,” she said.
Donations are still coming in and being tallied for 2025, but she said the $13 million has been surpassed.
