ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Hurricane Melissa was a Category 5 storm when it made landfall in Jamaica, unleashing heavy rain and powerful winds. Many St. Louisans with family in Jamaica watched the storm’s developments, deeply concerned for their loved ones’ safety.
Akeira Treston, whose parents own Kingston Ten Restaurant and Bar in Florissant, expressed anxiety.

“We’re extremely worried,” Treston said. “We’re staying in contact with family.”
Some of Treston’s relatives live in St. Elizabeth Parish on the southwest side of the island, where the storm made landfall.
