JACKSON, Miss, (WJTV) - As Mississippi prepares for a pause in SNAP benefits in November, a Jackson nonprofit said it's already seeing more people seeking help.
Stewpot Community Services operates many programs for the community, including a community kitchen and food pantry. Both are feeling the strain as families prepare for benefits to stop in November.
For many residents, the pause in SNAP benefits is already causing worry about how they will put food on the table.
"It is going to be difficult because they ain't getting no, you know, food stamps no more. I know it will be hard for me," said one resident.
Even if SNAP is restored soon, the effects are expected to linger.
