Hurricane Melissa, the most powerful storm of the year, is battering Jamaica.
The Category 5 hurricane, with sustained winds of 175mph, is already pummelling the Caribbean island with flash flooding and storm surges, the US agency said.
Weather experts say Melissa could be the most devastating hurricane ever to strike Jamaica, unleashing up to 30 inches of rain along with 175mph winds.
