LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services announced it will pause Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on Oct. 29 due to the federal government shutdown .

DHHS said the announcement comes at the direction of the USDA.

The USDA notified the state that federally funded SNAP benefits for November will be delayed if the shutdown continues into next month.

“Because of D.C.’s political games, the SNAP benefits that many Nebraska families and kids depend on are about to be turned off,” Gov. Jim Pillen said in a press release . Pillen is currently leading a trade mission in Israel.
