CHELSEA, Mass. —
A television news helicopter made an emergency landing in Chelsea on Tuesday afternoon, Chief Keith Houghton of the Chelsea Police Department confirmed.
Houghton said the helicopter, operated by NBC Boston, was able to find a clear place to land in a vacant lot near the intersection of Shawmut and Marginal Streets. No injuries were reported.
Sgt. Jose Otero said he saw smoke coming from the helicopter before it began shaking and set down in the empty lot.
"In this dense neighborhood with the harbor right there, the salt piles and all these houses, he was very fortunate to find this to land in," Otero said. "Because I believe he was contemplating landing in an intersection before landing in this."
