Melissa came ashore Tuesday afternoon as a Category 5 hurricane in southwestern Jamaica near New Hope with estimated sustained winds around 185 mph and gusts to 220 mph. It continues to unleash dangerous winds, life-threatening surge, and flooding rains that could exceed 15–30 inches.
