AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - Augusta and some of its parks could be parting ways, and some city leaders are saying its about time.

“The proof is in the pudding. The parks are not being used. The way I see it is, you can either close them or you can sell them,” Commissioner Catherine Smith Rice.

The city's parks consultant presented three months’ worth of data on the use of city parks.

The conclusion of the data shows more than 20 are so underutilized, and the city should find a new use for them. One option being presented is to lease the parks to neighborhood associations. “The option is to sell the park.
