DOVER - Freshman Fiona Nolan's goal on a sudden-death penalty kick was the clincher and sent the St. Thomas Aquinas girls soccer team to the next round in the Division III tournament.
After 80 minutes of regulation and two scoreless overtimes, the fourth-seeded Saints and No. 13 Conant went on to penalty kicks.
The Saints scored three goals in the shootout by Mallory Baker and Charlotte De Tolla, and Nolan, giving St. Thomas the 1-0 win. St. Thomas goalie Grace Cayer-Salem did not allow a goal in the shootout. She finished with five saves in regulation.
"We’ve struggled against Conant before, and they came to play today," St. Thomas head coach Patrick Hureau said. "We came out very aggressive in the second half, hitting the post four different times. It was just one of those games where
