RED WING, Minn. — Two swatting incidents in Red Wing earlier this month have been traced to an international cybercrime network that the FBI and Department of Justice classify as a terror-threat organization, according to local and federal authorities.
Police Chief Nick Sather said officers were called to a home in the 1300 block of East Avenue on October 14 after a report of multiple shooting victims — a call later determined to be false. Two days later, the same residence was targeted again.
“Most people don’t have police officers showing up at their door asking if anyone’s been shot,” Sather said. “It was pretty traumatizing for someone to get that phone call.”
