Cyclone Montha made landfall on Tuesday around 7 pm as a ‘severe cyclonic storm’. Hours later, it gradually weakened over coastal Andhra Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department said that the cyclonic storm is likely to maintain its intensity as a cyclonic storm during the next 6 hours, and weaken further into a deep depression. The latest observations indicate that it is expected to move nearly northeastwards across the East Central Arabian Sea during the next 36 hours.

A red alert has been issued in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapathi, and Ganjam districts. Most of the other districts are on yellow alert.
