PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Jurors have completed their first day of deliberations in the murder trial of former Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson, who shot and killed Sonya Massey in her Springfield home after she called 911 for help.
Jurors will return to the Peoria Courthouse Wednesday morning to try and reach a verdict.
Grayson, 31, is accused of first-degree murder in the 2024 shooting case of Sonya Massey, a Black woman who called 911 for help but was later shot and killed because she was holding a pot of hot water.
A jury consisting of eight women and four men will have the option Tuesday to find Grayson guilty of either first-degree murder, carrying a possible sentence of 45 years to life in prison, or second-degree murder, which carries a term of four to 20 years, as
