DESOTO, Texas — DeSoto residents might hear gunshots overnight as the city aims to cull its coyote population.
The City of DeSoto announced on Monday that it will be conducting a "coyote removal operation" starting at 2 a.m. Wednesday.
WFAA reached out to the City, which said USDA Wildlife Services will use professional marksmen, authorized by federal wildlife management protocols, to ride around and shoot the coyotes from their vehicles.
According to city officials, there have been at least five documented coyote attacks on residents' pets since June, resulting in the deaths of "several small dogs." Officials confirmed no human attacks have been reported.
The operation will take place in the area between East Wintergreen Road and East Belt Line Road to the north and south and I-35 E a
