MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis educators rallied on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after overwhelmingly voting to go on strike.

School board members also convened for their regular finance committee meeting to begin drafting the district's budget for 2026-2027 as it already stares down a $25 million deficit.

Current and former district employees have called the situation a financial crisis that experts say is largely driven by falling enrollment due to several factors, including a declining birthrate to a failed plan to reconfigure school boundaries.

In an interview with KARE 11 reporter Jennifer Hoff, Minneapolis School Board Chair Collin Beachy says "everything is on the table" to try and right-size the shortfall.
