BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Airbnb is deploying anti-party technology for the fifth consecutive year to prevent disruptive Halloween celebrations at rental properties.

“During Halloween specifically, we had 130 different bookings blocked on Airbnb,” said Andy Gonzalez, Airbnb Southeast & Gulf Policy Lead.

The company blocked 130 bookings in Birmingham last Halloween, part of 38,000 deterred bookings nationwide. The technology uses machine learning to identify potentially higher-risk reservations and enforce Airbnb’s global ban on disruptive and unauthorized parties.

How the technology works

The system analyzes over 100 factors to flag suspicious bookings, including length of stay, proximity of the guest’s location to the rental property and property size.
