The severe cyclonic storm Montha made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, to the south of Kakinada, late Tuesday, accompanied by heavy rain and 110 km per hour winds, wreaking havoc in the coastal and low-lying areas.

While a woman was killed at Makanagudem village in the Konaseema district, there were no other casualties reported as of 5 am Wednesday amid reports of roof collapse and old houses crumbling.

Hundreds of trees and electricity poles were uprooted, and roads and streets were inundated by heavy rain. The Cyclone Montha has destroyed more than 2 lakh hectares of standing crops and horticulture in 12 of the 26 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
