DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WMTV) -More than 700,000 Wisconsin residents could lose access to food assistance as FoodShare funding is set to run out in four days, marking 28 days since the government shutdown began.

FoodShare in Wisconsin is 100% federally funded and is set to run out of money November 1. Without funding, people who rely on SNAP benefits will lose access to their food and grocery assistance.

The Wisconsin Grocer’s Association is calling on federal officials to extend FoodShare funding while local stores prepare to continue feeding people in the community.

At the Piggly Wiggly in Cross Plains, owner Tommy Lancaster said a significant amount of shoppers use SNAP benefits. Without it, feeding their families becomes more difficult.
