Cincinnati Public Schools superintendent Shauna Murphy gave the annual State of the Schools address on Tuesday night, focusing on the district's budget challenges and recent changes.

Going into this school year, the second-largest district in Ohio made cuts to close a $51 million budget gap. Facing the budget gap this summer, the district cut 109 teaching positions, many of which were already vacant. Advertisement

Cincinnati Public Schools added five new standalone middle and junior high schools, which helped balance classroom sizes and enrollment. Murphy said elementary schools were costing more than high schools.
