North Texas authorities are taking a fresh look at a decades-old unsolved murder through a new cold case initiative, teaming up with a nonprofit founded by a Plano police detective to reexamine evidence and reignite public interest in finding the killer.
Jennifer Day's 1985 North Texas murder
Jennifer Day was 14 years old when, on June 26, 1985, she vanished from her part-time job at a Dallas donut shop.
The teenager had been working alone in the shop that Sunday, just a five-minute walk from her home.
"Back then, everybody had a part-time job. It's just what you did. It wasn't unusual for someone who was 14, 15 years old to have a part-time job working weekends," recalls her older brother, Jeff Day, who had also worked at Preston Donuts, a now-shuttered business.
