Indian households are allocating a larger share of discretionary income to holidays and travel, aided by wider access to credit and rewards-led spending, according to Vikram Puri, Managing Director, Archer Hospitality.
He said domestic tourists continue to drive hotel demand as inbound arrivals into India remain below pre-pandemic levels.
“The last three years have been the best three years in the industry,” said Puri, who has worked in the sector for 17 years.
He linked the spending shift to how younger earners manage money.
“We are moving away from being a savings-based economy and moving closer to being a consumption-based economy where people are buying everything on an EMI,” he said, citing easier credit access and improved connectivity.
