A life that began in a small village in Punjab ended with a shocking targeted killing in suburban Canada when entrepreneur Darshan Singh Sahsi, aged 68, was shot dead on Monday morning outside his home in Abbotsford, with police describing the slaying as a “targeted killing".

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for Sahsi’s killing, with gang member Goldy Dhillon claiming in a social media post that the businessman was involved in drug trade and the gang had killed him when he refused to send them money.

Born into a farming family, Sahsi left for Canada in 1991 in the pursuit of new beginnings. According to Moneycontrol, he took on odd jobs before buying into a failing textile unit and re-building it into a global operation.
