When old and regal desert cactuses are burned in an Arizona wildfire, how do more grow back?

Not easily – but Natural Restorations is trying to fix that.

“Over the summer of 2020, the Bush Fire burned over 193,000 acres of land out here, including over 80,000 saguaros, and saguaros are a plant that doesn’t come back naturally after a fire,” said Gilbert resident and Natural Restorations co-founder Nicole Corey.

The Gilbert nonprofit is devoted to replanting replacements for the charred cacti and will host its sixth annual Save Our Saguaros Replanting event Nov. 8.

The event will be held in a section of the 2020 Bush Fire burn scar in the Tonto National Forest at Four Peaks. The event is sponsored by Wells Fargo and the National Forest Foundation, and will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
