Flooding and debris flows cause damage, closure at Pine Valley Recreation Area

Heavy rains have closed Pine Valley Recreation Area until further notice.

Dixie National Forest announced in a Facebook post earlier this month that impacts from Hurricane Priscilla caused the closure.

According to the closure order , the closure began last Friday and will remain in effect until Jan. 1, 2026, unless it is rescinded sooner.

A rainstorm on Oct. 10 over the Forsyth burn scar caused flooding and debris flow, Joseph Rechsteiner, Dixie National Forest's Pine Valley District ranger, told St. George News. Significant damage has made the area unsafe for the public.

"The Pine Valley Recreation Area has damage to roads, trails, campsites, fences and signs," he wrote in an email.

The Forest Service is working to remove debris from the road using heavy equipment, clear clogge
