Troopers in Marion County are looking for a driver they say took off after hitting two people.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a gray or silver Jeep ran off the road on Southwest 27th Circle on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., just off Marion Oaks Boulevard.

People who witnessed the crash say two people were on the grassy shoulder working on a truck that had broken down.

As they were standing in the grass, FHP says the driver of the Jeep missed a curve in the road and hit a 45-year-old man with the right side of his car before hitting a 76-year-old man directly.

After briefly pulling over, troopers say the driver fled the scene.

Both of the men who were hit by the Jeep were taken to the hospital where the 76-year-old man was pronounced dead.
