UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- The former Vernon Center Fire Department treasurer accused of stealing over $300,000 from his department learned his fate on Tuesday.
Jonnell Rose pled guilty to second-degree Grand Larceny in August after it was learned he stole checks and money meant for the fire department and put it into his own account. Further investigation found that he had used the stolen money to buy cryptocurrency and paid off his own personal credit card debt.
On Tuesday, October 28, Judge Michael Nolan sentenced Rose to one to three years in state prison for the gulty plea. However, before he did so, Chief Anthony Doty spoke before the court as part of a victim's impact statement.
