One of Wellard’s pioneering families has endured a second disappointment in an ongoing saga surrounding a plot of land in the City of Kwinana.
In March last year, The Sound spoke to the descendants of William Sutton, the original owner of Sutton Farm on Bertram Road, after their great-grandfather’s cottage was torn down just five days before the city listed it as a heritage building.
Last year, the 77,996sqm lot was sold to property developer Blueways for a housing project, for more than $9.3 million.
Despite the family’s heartbreak, there was some hope that the housing development would be named after the Suttons.
However, the family received a second blow when the development name was released — Wellard Green.
