(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota officials are committing 45 million dollars to enhanced oil recovery. On Monday, the state industrial commission approved funding for six projects for some of North Dakota’s largest oil companies. Enhanced oil recovery involves injecting liquids or gases into well-tapped formations to extract more oil. EOR is nothing new, but the industry hasn’t developed a profitable method in tight shale fields like the Bakken. There will be a private match for the projects of more than 70 million dollars as well as funding from the federal Energy Department.
