Schinkelshoek sets bests at World Cup
Pain Court’s Gavin Schinkelshoek began his season by setting three personal bests and breaking three Windsor Aquatic Club records at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Toronto.
He swam the men’s 100-metre freestyle in 49.90 seconds to not only set club records in the 15-17 years and open divisions, but also become the first WAC swimmer to go under 50 seconds.
He did the 50 backstroke in 25.18 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 54.18 seconds.
Olympic and world champions vied for medals, prize money and overall titles last week at the short-course meet, the final stop on a three-leg tour.
Schinkelshoek, 16, was one of the youngest men at the meet, but he still placed 20th in the 50 backstroke, 24th in the 100 backstroke and 32nd in the 100 free
