Military members who are currently active will start going without pay by mid-November if the government shutdown continues and lawmakers fail to come to an agreement, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.

Bessent said that although funds are drying up, there should be enough to pay troops on Friday, Oct. 31. By mid-November, however, military members likely will go without a paycheck if the shutdown continues.
"I think we'll be able to pay them beginning in November," Bessent said Oct. 26 on CBS News. "But by November 15 our troops and service members who are willing to risk their lives aren't going to be able to get paid."
