Two people were injured in separate crashes reported within 20 minutes of each other on eastbound Interstate 90 and Highway 18 in the Seattle area Wednesday morning.

The Seattle Fire Department reported at about 6:15 a.m. that five vehicles had crashed on eastbound I-90 at Mercer Island’s Island Crest Way.

One person was trapped inside their vehicle during the collision, the Fire Department said on X. Crews were able to free the person, and they are in stable condition. Only the carpool lane was open at 6:55 a.m.

Meanwhile, a semitruck ran into a tree off the roadway on Highway 18 around milepost 25 a couple miles from the I-90 intersection, Eastside Fire and Rescue reported just before 6 a.m. One person was seriously injured and taken to a hospital.
