State Sen. Josh Becker announced that his district office has launched an emergency food drive in response to the federal government shutdown, which could halt SNAP benefits as soon as Nov. 1.
The loss of SNAP, also known as CalFresh, would leave over tens of thousands of people across Senate District 13 without critical support, according to his office.
“No one in our community should be forced to suffer hunger during this uncertain time,” Becker, D-Menlo Park, said. “That’s why we are stepping up to help and inviting our community to do everything they can to donate food for our most vulnerable neighbors.”
Until SNAP benefits are restored, Becker’s district office will collect nonperishable food donations Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 3525 Alameda de las Pulgas
