Rail service was halted on Wednesday between Carlsbad and Encinitas after crews discovered a broken water line, according to the North County Transit District.

The issue has made the coaster tracks unsafe, which prompted the NCTD to stop rail service between the Poinsettia station in Carlsbad and the Encinitas station at around 7:30 a.m., a spokesperson told NBC 7.

It was not clear how long the closure would last, but NCTD had crews out working on the water line on Wednesday morning.

The closure affected all rail service, according to NCTD, so it was possible that passengers on the Pacific Surfliner Amtrak would also be impacted.

Affected passengers were being transferred around the closure via bus.

This is a developing story. Details may change as information is released.
