INDIANAPOLIS — Marco Andretti on Wednesday announced his retirement from auto racing, including the Indianapolis 500 .
Andretti, the grandson of racing legend Mario Andretti, competed in the IndyCar Series from 2006 to 2025. He was a 20-time Indy 500 starter and 2006 INDYCAR Rookie of the Year.
"To my family, friends, teams, sponsors, and fans who have genuinely supported me for the last 30 years in motorsports, I want to thank you for allowing me the privilege to continue our family’s passion on the racetrack," the 38-year-old wrote in a social media post .
In the post, Andretti wrote, "I am proud of my overall stats at the Indy 500" and that he had "six very legitimate shots at victory."
