The Chicago Bears are expected to sign defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson, a source confirmed to the Tribune on Wednesday. The Bears have an open spot on the roster, which was at 52 players after Tuesday’s moves.

With the secondary severely depleted by injuries, the Bears are bringing in a veteran who started 16 regular-season games and all four playoff games for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. Gardner-Johnson had six interceptions last season.

Gardner-Johnson, 27, previously crossed paths with Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen in New Orleans and coach Ben Johnson in Detroit. In his seventh NFL season, he has 18 interceptions in 77 games.
