MERIDIAN, Idaho — Caldwell High School defeated Borah in a penalty kick shootout Tuesday night at Rocky Mountain High School to capture the school's first-ever 6A state soccer championship, completing a remarkable underdog season.
The Cougars won the shootout after the match remained scoreless through regulation and double overtime. The game was a continuation of a match that was suspended on Saturday due to weather conditions.
Caldwell seized early control of the shootout, blocking Borah's first attempt before scoring to take a 1-0 lead in PKs. After Caldwell blocked Borah's second penalty kick, Borah fought back to tie the shootout at 3-3, but their next attempt sailed over the net in a crushing moment for the Lions.
