The following contains spoilers for It: Welcome to Derry Episode 1The HBO Max prequel It: Welcome to Derry introduced viewers to a story that is obviously not following the formula from the Stephen King novel. The pilot episode featured a twist ending that confirmed we are not watching the average prequel, and anything can happen in 1962's Derry. The first episode of the series also had a terrific opening that introduced a manifestation of It that will surely leave you scratching your head — a mutant flying bat baby with two heads. Although It can manifest itself in any way it wants, it was unexpected to see a creature that's so distant from the Pennywise we all know. Nevertheless, series co-creator Jason Fuchs has the perfect reason why the flying bat baby actually works.
