KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Charme P. Allen Office of the District Attorney General said on Wednesday that they were able to get a conviction for a man's third offense of driving under the influence.
Knoxville police officers told a jury that they found Ben Tambo Wasike asleep in the driver's seat of his improperly-parked vehicle while the vehicle was running in the parking lot of the Weigel's on Lonas Drive in September 2019.
They told the jury that, when he woke up, he had bloodshot eyes, difficulty opening his glovebox to retrieve his ID and he smelled like alcohol. Officers also said that he refused to consent to field sobriety tests, and he denied consuming alcohol. However, they said that a mandatory blood draw showed a blood alcohol content of 0.134, which is above the legal limit of 0
