LA PUENTE – The Bishop Amat flag football team lost a heartbreaker to Newbury Park in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Bishop Amat scored early and was hoping to hold on, but Newbury Park scored a touchdown with two minutes left, and then added a go-ahead 2-point conversion.
That was the difference as Newbury Park snuck past Bishop Amat, 8-7, to advance to Saturday’s semifinals against Corona del Mar.
Bishop Amat (23-6) tried to rally in the final minute. Quarterback Lyla Terry got the Lancers in position to go for the win with two runs over 20 yards. But she threw her second interception with 23 seconds left and Newbury Park held on.
