LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) - A Lake City icon known for waving an American flag and holding thank you signs on a street corner has died.

Terry Hancock , known as the “Lake City Flag Waver,” died Monday. For four years, he stood at the corner of Baya Avenue and Main Boulevard, saying hi to drivers and spreading kindness.

Many came together at the intersection on Wednesday morning, waving flags, cheering, and sharing memories to honor Hancock.

“Well, he was just a jolly guy and he loved life,” said his brother, Philip Hancock. “He spent all his retirement time right here on this corner.”

Hancock had been part of the Lake City community for more than 50 years. Family members, city leaders, and residents came together to celebrate the happiness he brought to others.
