Senapati: Thuingaleng Muivah, general secretary of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) and face of the Naga resistance movement, received a rousing reception Wednesday in Senapati on his first visit to Manipur in over five decades.

Hundreds of Nagas formed a human chain to sing and chant slogans as Muivah went from the helipad, where he landed, to the venue for a grand reception in Senapati district.

At the event, organised by civil society organisations under the aegis of United Naga Council (UNC), nearly a thousand supporters staged a musical performance for Muivah. UNC also marked the occasion by declaring “Genna”, a traditional day of rest and unity, when all business operations are suspended, and transport and trade takes a break. Show Full Article
