This week’s planned installation of a new pedestrian bridge in Coon Rapids is on hold after the large, metal bridge segment hit the underside of another bridge while being transported to the site on Tuesday.

The crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. along State Highway 65 at County Road 10 in Spring Lake Park.

The State Patrol said the metal pedestrian bridge segment was being hauled by a southbound semi when the over-height cargo hit the overpass.

The collision caused the trailer to detach from the semi, and a second vehicle then struck the trailer.

The Patrol said there were no injuries in the crash — but it did damage the new span being transported to Coon Rapids.
