RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - North Carolina health officials report a second person has died this flu season.
The Department of Health and Human Services says so far, a person between 50 and 64, and another 65 or older, has died this month.
The first death happened during the week ending October 4th.
Officials say the early deaths highlight the importance of staying up to date on vaccinations and taking preventive measures before virus activity peaks later this fall and winter.
DHHS is urging everyone six months and older to get the flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Adults 60 and older, along with pregnant women, are encouraged to talk with their providers about RSV vaccination options.
Last season, 544 people died from the flu, the highest number since 2009.
