The Australian sunscreen manufacturer at the centre of a spate of recent product recalls has been blocked from exporting sunscreens to the United States for the past three years.

Despite this, the Australian regulator allowed the manufacturer, Wild Child Laboratories, to continue supplying sunscreen for the Australian market.

Last month, following an ABC investigation , it was confirmed that Wild Child produced the base formulation used in 20 sunscreen products that have recently been recalled, withdrawn from sale or are under review in Australia amid concerns they do not meet their Sun Protection Factor (SPF) label claims.

Perth-based Wild Child Laboratories has been on a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Import Alert, or "Red List", since 2022.
