East River’s back-to-back state champion girls bowlers are in the same spot as the past two years – on top after the qualifying rounds.
The Falcons averaged just under 200 per bowler in four games on Wednesday at Orlando’s Boardwalk Bowl to earn the top seed for the 16-team championship bracket, which culminates with finals on Thursday. East River’s 3,973 total was more than 100 pins ahead of second-place Bell Creek.
Three East River girls qualified for the 16-player individual bracket. Jada Vidal rolled 875 for the second seed, Larielle Tharps totaled 862 for third, and Emily Marmolejo shot 792 for the 12th seed.
South Lake placed 16th by one pin over Flagler Palm Coast as the second Orlando area team to advance to match play.
